Weird Food Combinations that Taste Delicious

Interestingly, food combining has been coined as a term and is known to have been promoted originally by an American food expert and writer. Herbert Sheldon, in his book ‘Food Combining, Made Easy’ published in 1951 had written memoirs of various do and don’t for the art. For example, the best-known food combining for diet is called ‘Hay Diet’ named after William Hay who is said to have lost 30 pounds less than 3 months following ‘Hay Diet’.

The Earliest Records

A combination meal today can comprise of a starter, main course, and dessert or the different items mixed in the main course itself. For example, in fast food combos, a hamburger is combined with French fries, a beverage or soft drink and perhaps a cookie at the end.

Somewhere around 100AD physicians compiled the earliest records of food combinations known to this date. The branch of science was called ‘Ayurveda’ instead of food science or MasterChef in today’s jargon. ‘Ayurveda’ is a science that has been around for thousands of years originating in manuscripts in the Indian peninsula where right and wrong food combinations were first mentioned for all to follow.

The History of Combination Meals

Combining various types of food to make a proper meal has always been simple since the old days. You have something to eat and something else to drink. There are basically two items. In the US, combos or combination meals became popular in the 1930s. While, for centuries people have combined bread and eggs, rice and vegetables and different types of food in different regions of the world, some have grown into popularity despite seeming weird.
